Summer School 2026 

Once again, this year’s Truth in Science Summer School held 4th - 5th September, proved a rich blessing, bringing together a wide-ranging programme of talks on science, social science, and standing confidently for the Christian faith at university.

Our guest speaker, Dr Joe Boot of the Ezra Institute, explored our Christian heritage and what it means to live faithfully as Christians in today’s society. Professor Andy McIntosh addressed the importance of biblical creation, particularly as many churches embrace liberal approaches to Scripture. We also welcomed representatives from Answers in Genesis, the Biblical Creation Trust, and Creation Research UK.

The scientific talks offered much to inform and inspire. Professor Steve Taylor examined dinosaurs and DNA, while Professor Tim Wells explored the remarkable precision engineering involved in bone growth. An unexpected highlight was consultant surgeon Dr Stephen Stonelake’s presentation on God’s design in embryology, reflecting the words of Psalm 139:13: “thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.”

Topics ranged from the challenges that the origin of life presents to evolutionary explanations to the glory of God displayed in the often-overlooked world of slugs and snails. Throughout the programme, students were encouraged to consider how the wonders of the natural world bear witness to their Creator.

Discussion groups and question panels provided valuable opportunities to explore the issues further, ask searching questions, and learn from the speakers and one another. Students left better equipped to stand for their faith and engage thoughtfully with the challenges of university life.
